The Louisville Public Library was started by the Louisville Women's Club in February 1901. It was started with one hundred used and donated books. The first librarian was Mrs. S. B. (Sarah) McLeian or McLearn). She served 7 years. Miss Edith Shyrock served as librarian from 1908-1917. When the town took over the library in 1917 Edith Shyrock remained as the librarian till 1931. Other librarians were: Mrs. E. D. Stevenson--1932-1935
At the time the Village Board took over the library it was appointed by Mrs. E. D. Stevenson as President; Mrs. Helen A. Cleghorn as Secretary and James Stander as Treasurer in December 1916.
LOUISVILLE LIBRARY - Recently purchased titles are available for checkout! They include: Will You Still be Mine by Dorothy Garlock; Double Take by Catherine Coulter; Bungalow 2 by Danielle Steele; Lean Mean Thirteen by Janet Evanovich; Lawman by Diana Palmer; and Summer Pleasures by Nora Roberts. Also come check out A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, who also wrote The Kite Runner. This one is getting great reviews! With fall approaching, it is a great time to curl up with a good book. Come and see what we have to offer!
LIBRARY BOARD MEMBERS Library Board meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6pm at the Library, call 234-6265. 5 members appointed by the City Council after recommendations from the Library Board. President: Lisa Sheehan
