Acceptable items are: general trash, leaves and grass, white goods (i.e. refrigerators and appliances) $5.00 each. Items not accepted include: paint, tires, batteries, oil and hazardous items. TIP: the key to discarding paint is to empty that old paint can on cardboard, let both the can and cardboard dry and then toss it all away.
The tree dump remains available on an "as needed" basis. Contact City Hall at 234-7605 to set up an appointment.
Main street construction is progressing. To many it seems like an endless process; however, it is expected to be completed by mid October. Contract completion date is November 1, 2000. Parallel parking in allowed on Main Street during removal and paving of concrete. Parking is available on the north side of the Stander Hardware Store. Business owners are willing to help customers to park their vehicles. Please ask for assistance. A total of fifty-one water services were installed from the original 33 in the plans. The Main St project and the well situation have nothing to do with each other. Both are funded separately and independently from separate sources.
The City appreciates everyone's assistance in continuing to conserve water. The City wells appear to be holding their own. The city is pursuing a temporary well at the current wellhead protection area. Long-term solutions appear to be locating a water source north of the Platte River and forming a new wellhead protection area. Another option is Metropolitan Utility District. The cities two wells originated in 1910 and 1941; as many know uses have certainly changed since the wells were originally installed. How many remember when underground water systems were first introduced and installed; when commercial car washes became a reality; or when did the city water gallons pumped and consumed begin doubling? The city has no records on this; however, isn't it an intriguing question. It appears fifty years ago, no one could imagine the changes and uses of today.
Cheryl Knutson has accepted the Assistant Clerk position at City Hall. She will be assisting the City Clerk with the utility billing, solid waste, animal complaints, rescue billing, and help answer questions.
The Louisville Jaycees were recognized several times this year for sponsoring events and membership. Congratulations Jaycees!!! September 2 they will be holding a street dance on the Copple car lot at 3rd & Main. Contact the Jaycees for information.
School has begun, please watch for children walking and riding bikes to school. Remember speed bumps were installed on the south side of the school. Red painted curbs mean NO PARKING IS ALLOWED. Please observe the painted curbs near the school.
The Senior Civic Center is for rent. If you plan to entertain for an anniversary, birthday party, wedding, graduation, holiday, family reunion, seminar, or other type of event, please contact the City Hall to make arrangements. The City Hall has not been informed when the flu shot clinic will be held at the Senior Center; however, please watch the bulletin boards for upcoming information or contact Pat Schliefert at 234-2120.
The Fire and Rescue Department are always in need of members. If you would like to be a Volunteer Fire or Rescue person contact Brian Heard, Levi Krause, or Wayne Chriswisser.
The male population of Louisville did increase, Shawna Manley had a boy [Parker] and the family is doing fine. For garden enthusiasts, Martha Winingham grew a 2¼ lb tomato.
Reminders:
As fall and winter approach, please review the following policies:
Residents mowing and doing fall lawn clean-up, please try to prevent grass clippings and leaves from falling into the street, as this blocks the storm sewer from draining.
There have still been numerous complaints of dogs running loose on the streets. Please remember that Louisville has a leash law, and all animals are expected to be kept confined, on a leash or in a pen so that they are not running loose.
Snow removal (city code 5-711, 5-711.01) on the city streets is usually between the hours of 1 am - 7 am, however; maintenance personnel will be shoveling as much snow in daylight hours as possible. No vehicles should be parked on the streets. Those vehicles may be towed.
Snow removal from the residential sidewalks must be done within 24 hours of the storm (city code 8-202). The business district must clear the sidewalks by 10 am or within 5 hours after cessation of the storm.
Parking on residential streets should be limited to one side of the street or in driveways or parking lots. This will help keep the streets open for emergency vehicles such as rescue squads and fire trucks, and will limit the amount of parking complaints received, so less "no parking" signs have to be posted.
Building permits are required for fences, porches, patios, home additions, swimming pools, accessory structures, retaining walls, remodeling, electrical and plumbing, and location of curb cuts and sidewalks just to name a few. If you are planning any type of construction, please contact the City Hall or the building inspector, Bill Krejci at 234- 2423. The 1997 Uniform building codes were adopted by the City.
Everyone at the City hopes each and every resident has an enjoyable Labor Day weekend. We expect to see spooks at Halloween and then hear about how everyone relaxed over the Thanksgiving holiday.
